Artist of UNSEEN 2.0 - Aakansha Menon | Illustrator
UNSEEN 2.0 is an unconventional form of exhibition which is a digital art exhibition curated by Platform For Artists . This enables artists across the country to participate, showcase their work and connect with like minded people. The entire idea is to broaden the scope of exposure which the artists would probably not get at an offline event. We have sixty diverse artists from across the country who are a part of this one of it's kind art exhibition.
Here is a set of questions team Platform For Artists asked Aakansha about her everyday routine, her art interests and more.
Tell us about yourself.
I am Aakansha Menon, a Malayalee from Chennai.
Graduated from National Institute of Fashion technology Bangalore in Fashion Design and then worked for a Fashion brand for a year. Explored freelancing full-time in various fields from photography to interiors to illustrations. That is when I started creating art and sharing them on Instagram under the name Hued Spirit. I currently work as an Illustrator at Lollypop Design Studio (cause freelancing is tough when you got to pay bills).
Creating art is like my superpower. I completely enjoy the process of creating art from one idea to another gradually turning into something better than what I have thought. For me content matters most and then the style, cause style depends on what I draw and the mood I am in. I personally like a raw scribbly style of illustration but hey! There’s a lot to explore and i love that.
I am a big time foodie. One of those who clicks atleast ten pictures of a pizza before eating it. Yes.
Apparently my Instagram feed on food at 11pm triggers cravings for people. Food is like art, very satisfying.I like satisfying.
What are your art interests?
I love exploring with material like clay, wood, canvas, digital and much more.
Also photomanipulation with art is something interesting which I plan to do more of.
Dream to design a restaurant or cafe with my art starting from walls to the menu card design cause I love drawing food the most and love food in general.
Creating GIFs and animations of my art is something I am yet to explore further but highly interested in.
What are your views about the current scenario of art in our country?
I think Art is growing slowly. Start+india has already started with the buildings being painted by artists around the world which is amazing! ( another dream to paint a building with my artwork) A lot of Publishers are looking for artists to create illustrations for storybooks and posters. Art has also reached the music industry in their branding.
I feel a lot more opportunities should be generated for us to participate, meet artists from other countries and learn through workshops cause I think a lot of learning and exploring is required and maybe many are not sure how to go about it.
What are you working on currently?
Currently working on a corporate Gifting order with a challenging theme.
It’s a busy month.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
One is from people around , situations around that I experience and find something to draw.
Second it is mostly imaginary adding a pinch of humor in them. I also go through other artists work to observe their lines and understand their thought process. Sometimes just looking at certain artworks make me want to draw.
Which kind of artists would you be interested to collaborate with?
Can I name them?
Sajid Wajid is one of my favourites! Crazy creative with like objects and also love his minimalistic art. Sameer Kulavoor as well ,as his art is simple surrounding things but it’s powerful too.
And yes my childhood influencer, Rob from MAD!
What's the first thing you do when you wake up ?
Which is the most used app in your phone?
Instagram and Paytm( I hardly withdraw money these days, such a digital world i tell you)
Which is the one song you can't get out of your head?
Can’t pick a song cause I listen to songs till I get bored and then there’s a new one.
So it is mostly situational.
You de-stress by?
Eating and watching something
Chilling with friends and not talk about work.
