Artist of UNSEEN 2.0 - Apoorva Gohad | Painter and Illustrator
UNSEEN 2.0 is an unconventional form of exhibition which is a digital art exhibition curated by Platform For Artists . This enables artists across the country to participate, showcase their work and connect with like minded people. The entire idea is to broaden the scope of exposure which the artists would probably not get at an offline event. We have sixty diverse artists from across the country who are a part of this one of it's kind art exhibition.
Here is a set of questions team Platform For Artists asked Apoorva about her everyday routine, her art interests and more.
Tell us about yourself
I am Apoorva and I am currently a painting student studying in Nagpur. I am originally from Pune, but I have been travelling around as long as I can remember. I basically used to go for these drawing classes when I was a kid and used to not really like it because they wanted me to do things in certain way only. But when I would get back home I would still do the drawing and scribbling but this time the way I wanted it to be in. That’s how art in general began for me, as a means of self expression. Later on while I was painting and creating things I was also playing TT, lawn tennis and doing athletics too. But in all cases art stood by me as a way of expressing y emotion be it anger , sorrow, happiness, love etc etc
What are your art interests?
My art interests are endless(xD). This also created a huge confusion since I had a choose one subject during my BFA course. I was sad as I could not take all. Because for me art is universal and I don’t understand the need to put barriers in between them and then saying oh we are all one. So apart from painting, i also sculpt with clay, upscale or upcycle things since I am hoarder too, I like to work with the media engagement and posts(for others mostly since my feed is usually in hibernation, and I am open to any new medium and new things I can get my hands on each time.
What are your views on the current scenario of art in our country?
The current scenario of art in our country is a very dicey question in the first place. This is mainly due to the fact that art is obviously flourishing in parts that it always has, it is newly coming up in new places too, slowly developments are also taking place. But we still have a long way, because of the lack of infrastructure (academically and non-academically too), awareness that its not only a certain number of people who can do art.
What are you currently working on?
So currently I am working on getting a hang of the digital work and creating my illustrations and ideas digitally. I am also in the process of making an installation which will be an interactive form of illustrations and not the conventional ones. Apart from that I am open to collaborations and freelance works.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
Inspiration comes from within after I am done observing. I usually work with reading books regarding history or regarding something very intense and get a idea or a thought that I either scribble or make. Movies inspire me, people I see all the day long also do.
Which kind of artist would you like to collaborate with?
Collaboration is really fun! I really don’t have a specific that oh I only want to collaborate with this person or something. I am open to all collaborations with be it a designer, illustrator, comic artist, musician, theatre actor, painter, potter etc. this is mainly because I am somebody who doesn’t like to be in a box and say I wont work with a certain box.
What is the first thing you do when you wake up?
First thing after waking up is oh I want to sleep some more. But after that I usually check my phone for emails, Instagram feed, Whatsapp and look at my painting or the incomplete sketch in my sketch book and feel like I should have finished it yesterday(xD). Oh and have chai!
Which is the most used app on your phone?
Instagram! Undoubtedly and Whatsapp. These two apps are the only so frequently used apps that I sometimes do feel like deleting other apps. Apart from these two, I also use this book app which is really great too.
Which is the one song you cant get out of your head?
Bohemian Raphsody . especially the line “mama, oooo, didn’t mean to make you cry , if I am not back again this time tomorrow, carry on carry on, coz nothing really matter”. Which ever new song I sing or learn, end of the day I am singing this song
You destress by?
Painting in black or just holding a brush pen or my normal black pen in handle. Or else pebbles and grass which really help me de stress and relax.Oh and not to forget coffee! The most easily available poison at any time of the day or night.
