Artist of UNSEEN 2.0 - Kevin Sheth | Photographer

UNSEEN 2.0 is an unconventional form of exhibition which is a digital art exhibition curated by Platform For Artists . This enables artists across the country to participate, showcase their work and connect with like minded people. The entire idea is to broaden the scope of exposure which the artists would probably not get at an offline event. We have sixty diverse artists from across the country who are a part of this one of it's kind art exhibition.

Here is a set of questions team Platform For Artists asked Kevin about his everyday routine, his art interests and more.

Tell us about yourself?

Hey! I'm Kevin Sheth. I'm 22 years old and I reside in Mumbai. I graduated from Symbiosis School of Photography in 2018. Originally I hail from Kolkata, the capital of arts and culture of our country. Kolkata as a city has such a rich cultural heritage, that I found myself living in an environment that constantly contributed to the art aesthetic in my subconscious.

I always knew that I was creative. I always knew that I had it in me to create something unique and totally out of the box. The only problem was I didn't know how to channel my artistic instincts. Fortunately, I got introduced to photography in 2014. And it's been a great journey since because photography gave me the liberty to be candid in my approach and at the same time be manipulative while post processing, to achieve the result that I had so dearly visualized.

Cut to 2018, I graduated and started my own start up with three of my batch mates. Now together, we run a company called Visual Affairs, where we conceptualize, produce, photograph and post process all at the same place.

Just feels very satisfying to have taken one step forward, in this long visual journey that I have embarked upon.

What are your art interests?

Photography sits at the top of everything. However other than photography I like to Creative direct and Write. I don't know how well versed I am with the other two because I have never been tested in the other two genres of art but I'd be more than willing to explore both of them.

What are your views on the current scenario of art in the country?

India has a really Vivid Art scenario. There are so many artists in such diverse fields, the amount of talent in this country is unfathomable. Having said that, there are still so many artists who are unable to purse their talent because of the terrible stigmas that exist in our society. The fear of not having a stable career, the fear of not being able to provide for the family, the "log kya kahenge? " Stigma, etc.

If people were to be more open minded India would be at par with leading countries as far as art / creativity is concerned. There is just so much talent in this country but unfortunately they never get an opportunity, mostly because they aren't allowed to pursue what they really wish to do and also because not many people are supportive of art. How do you expect something to prosper if you crush it before it even takes its initial step!It is because of this negligence, that art related fields in India do not offer as much money as they do in foreign countries. But if we were to look on the positive side. India is progressing. Not at the rate it should but it is taking one step at a time. For example, Gully Gang Entertainment, started by Divine is a proper example of how artists should stand up for other artists, to give the art scene a much better footing in the country.

If I'm ever able, I'd also wish to contribute in a similar way.

What are you working on currently?

Currently I'm working at my start up, Visual Affairs. It's a photography company that I've started with three of my batch mates. As a company we mostly take up commercial assignments, in various fields of photography like Fashion, Food, Product and Interior Architecture.

Personally, I'm working on my own style of photography that is mainly focused on portraiture. I intend to develop and get better at it over time.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

I get my inspiration from Movies. Also I really love the work of two Indian Photographers in Particular, Ashish Shah and Bikramjit Bose. I really like their style of work.

What kind of artists would you be interested to collaborate with?

I'd love to collaborate with 3D/Animation artists. I feel photography paired with Animation would give some ecstatic results. I'd also love to work with writers and poets. Putting their words into visuals would be a different experience all together.
