Artist of UNSEEN 2.0 - Mallika Dahiya
UNSEEN 2.0 is an unconventional form of exhibition which is a digital art exhibition curated by Platform For Artists . This enables artists across the country to participate, showcase their work and connect with like minded people. The entire idea is to broaden the scope of exposure which the artists would probably not get at an offline event. We have sixty diverse artists from across the country who are a part of this one of it's kind art exhibition.
Here is a set of questions team Platform For Artists asked Mallika about her everyday routine, her art interests and more.
Tell us about yourself.
Hey there! My name is Mallika Dahiya and I am a 22-year-old shuffling my life between 2 cities- Delhi & Bombay. Currently, I am employed with Tata Trusts and working on a beautiful project called as Internet Saathi where we work towards making rural women more digitally literate.
When not in office, you will surely find me either napping or doodling away. Last year ,I took some courage and started my art page on Instagram called Nami Daanam It is a Farsi Phrase which means “I don’t know”. Why this name? Because it best describes my permanent state of mind. I am extremely passionate about it and look forward to posting my style of artwork on the page every day.
After all the positive responses, I recently took a big risk of converting my art page into a mini online store called 'The Nami Daanam Shop' where, for the time being, I am selling Laptop Sleeves of my designs. I plan on curating more products in the coming future.
What are your art interests?
I like it the old school way. I enjoy doodling, drawing and scribbling. I love the physical feel of papers and sketch pens. I am also trying to explore fluid art.
What are your views about the current scenario of art in our country?
I personally feel the art scenario is moving forward in positive direction in India. Artists are finally being accepted as professionals who are actually making a difference in the society by adding and changing perspective of the people who once limited anything related to art like painting and drawing to just being a hobby and not a legit professional career. Platforms like yours are helping carve a path for this movement.
What are your working on currently?
Currently I am working on the releasing designs for the Series 2 of my laptop sleeves. It’s a slow process. There is more rejection than acceptance. I am trying to discover more about colors which can be suitable for all age groups and genders.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
My artwork is purely and purely inspired and around 2 things- Eyes and Women. I am obsessed with both. All my artwork will most of the time have at least either one of these present for sure.
Why eyes? It is one feature which speaks a lot. Many a times, eyes can convey more emotions which even words will never be able to do.
Why women? Because women are a symbol of power to me.
Which kind of artists would you be interested to collaborate with?
Three names that pop up in my head when I think about artists are Ettavee, Ines Longevial & obviously Ricardo Covolo. I love their work for the reason being it is raw and pure. It is simple and unique. I like them and it would be a dream come true to collaborate with them because of Ettavee’s style of juggling with colors, Ricardo’s obsession with eyes and Ines portrayal of women.
