It’s art that keeps me sane!

Artist of UNSEEN 2.0 - Minal Chag | Graphic Designer & Zentangle Doodle Artist

UNSEEN 2.0 is an unconventional form of exhibition which is a digital art exhibition curated by Platform For Artists . This enables artists across the country to participate, showcase their work and connect with like minded people. The entire idea is to broaden the scope of exposure which the artists would probably not get at an offline event. We have sixty diverse artists from across the country who are a part of this one of it's kind art exhibition.

Here is a set of questions team Platform For Artists asked Minal about her everyday routine, her art interests and more.

Tell us about yourself.

Born and brought up in Calcutta. A freelance graphic designer and a zentangle doodle artist.

I have been drawing since I was a kid, randomly scribbling wherever and whenever I got an opportunity. I haven’t stopped since then nor do I wish to stop. It’s art that keeps me sane!

I have pursued BBA from JD Birla Institute and done post graduate diploma in Integrated Marketing Communication from St. Xavier’s College. And on a professional front I am currently working at CLIRNet Services, a healthcare start-up as Senior Manager, Business Support Services.

What are your art interests?

Extremely fond of zentangles - a technique of creating something using repetitive art patterns, which is fun and relaxing. I care about my tools as well, my favourite tools for doodling are Staedtler pens, Sakura Micron Pens and Koi Brush pens on a regular basis for the blacks and greys. I believe these tools help me bring my imagination to reality.

Baby Milestone creatives is my most favourite genre that I simply love designing. Getting to know a kid through their parents’ eyes and bringing their imagination to life gives me immense happiness. It’s like designing precious memories for keeps.

What are your views about the current scenario of art in our country?

Careers in art aren’t encouraged in our society. People are still conservative. Parents specially, they do not let children take up these subjects because they want them to have a so called “secure job”. I believe it’s high time we should start being supportive about art because there is a different level of enthusiasm in doing what you love and I feel it should be taken up!

What are you working on currently?

Looking forward to expanding and working on improving my artistic vision. Along with my own line of quirky stationery, I am trying to experiment with stuff like scribble pads, coasters, bookmarks, coffee/chai mugs, and more! I also conduct workshops for kids!

Where do you get your inspiration from?

Family and close friends, and most importantly artists all around are an inspiration, their struggles and hardwork, their stories inspire me to have a story of my own! And I believe I will be an inspiration to someone.

Which kind of artists would you be interested to collaborate with?

I would like to collaborate with Comic Artists like Alicia Souza, Neha Doodles or WoodleDoodle Designs. Also would like to work with writers/authors for graphic designing some art, probably end up designing a few book covers!

What's the first thing you do when you wake up?

Check my Instagram and Facebook before anything at all! Sometimes even when my eyes barely open up.

Which is the most used app in your phone?

Instagram and PicsArt

Which is the one song you can't get out of your head?

Keeps changing, currently hooked onto Tujhe Kitna Chaahne Lage from Kabir Singh.

You de-stress by?

Art is the absolute way! Random scribbles/patters help me de-stress, it’s very subtle and calming or I might end up eating a lot of cookies, chocolates or junk food.
