Artist of UNSEEN 2.0 - Parul Pancholi | Painter
UNSEEN 2.0 is an unconventional form of exhibition which is a digital art exhibition curated by Platform For Artists . This enables artists across the country to participate, showcase their work and connect with like minded people. The entire idea is to broaden the scope of exposure which the artists would probably not get at an offline event. We have sixty diverse artists from across the country who are a part of this one of it's kind art exhibition.
Here is a set of questions team Platform For Artists asked Parul about her everyday routine, her art interests and more.
Tell us about yourself.
My name is Parul Pancholi and I’m a self-taught artist from Pune. I graduated as an engineer but after working for almost 7 years I realized my true passion lied with art. In 2017, I started teaching myself to draw and paint and since then there is no looking back.
What are your art interest?
I love to make portraits of people and pets because I absolutely love to capture the expressions and emotions on their faces. My favorite part is the eye which I enjoy painting the most. I want to be a classically trained artist since my work is mostly influenced by Lucian Freud, Rembrandt and Sargent, but lately I also indulge in the new school contemporary art and impressionism. However, I still aspire to get academically trained to learn the rules of art so that later I can break them to make a unique style of my own.
What are your views about the current scenario of art in our country?
I feel there are no ateliers for drawing and painting in our country. We need to have such institutes where one can drop in for workshops even as adults and learn to draw and paint with a more serious and professional approach. Art shouldn’t just be taught in school and there should be places where there are absolutely no age limit/eligibility to enter.
What are your working on currently?
This is my 2nd year on a project called ‘The 100 Days Project’. In this project, I paint every day for 100 days so by the end of the project, I have 100 drawings/paintings (mostly portraits) and a great learning experience.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
I get my inspiration from my contemporaries on Instagram and Pinterest. I also get hugely inspired by the classical 19th century painters.
Which kind of artists would you be interested to collaborate with?
I am open to have any creative collaboration.
What's the first thing you do when you wake up?
I doodle to activate the daily creativity.
Which is the most used app in your phone?
Which is the one song you can't get out of your head?
Dil dhoondta hai phir wahi fursat ke raat din – Bhupinder Singh Version. (Always, everyday)
You de-stress by?
Walking and painting
