Here is a set of questions team Platform For Artists asked Sawani about her everyday routine, her art interests and more.

Tell us about yourself

I am Sawani Wakharkar, a practicing Architect, an interior designer, singer, counselor and a creative artist. I have been working with my father since I completed my B.Arch in 2015.

As a teenager, I was always inclined towards music and creative art. My craft has evolved a lot over the years. Starting from pastels as a toddler to oil paints and acrylic and so forth, but none of them filled me with that compassion. I was never a coffee enthusiast but I have been a coffee consumer since a long time now, but in a slightly different way. My journey with the coffee mud started in 2k16 and within a year my work was recognized by Nescafe, honoring me with an appreciation letter and a hamper. I always thought I had a spiritual connection with my craft and for professional touch over my career I became an architect and I never treated my art as a way out. But life had contrasting plans for me and I’m cook-a-hoop that I had the courage to accept and become what I was supposed to be and to do what I’m supposed to do even if it’s against the tide.

I embarked my products under the name of ‘the Creative Kona’ featuring

· Coffee portraits

· Miniature sketches

· Customized products

· Color pencil portraits

· Home décor products

· Water color, acrylic portraits

ACHIEVEMENTS:

· In 2019, I was nominated as ‘The Best Lady Professional’ by Vidarbha Industries Association.

· An interview in all three editions of ‘LOKMAT’ news magazine (Hindi, English, Marathi)

· An interview in ‘DAINIK BHASKAR’ news magazine.

· Featured in an online blog ‘JOURNOTECT’ with the title ‘ARCHITECT WITH DEXTERITY’.

· A vocalist since 23 years with an experience over 150 stage concerts, and a Youtuber entitled ‘Sawani Wakharkar’.

· Quarter finalist in “COLGATE MAX FRESH STAR PLUS ANTAKSHARI” in 2006.

· Conducted a handmade jewelry workshop in Talegaon in collaboration with ‘Satpuda foundation’ to provide livelihood options for women self help group on 27 feb 2019.

· Participated in various local exhibitions.

What are your views about the current scenario of art in our country?

As an artist I feel privileged to be a part of such a country with such diversity. India is an ocean of art. It’s a roof to numerous forms of crafts and arts. Every region has its own form of art in the form of singing, dancing, paintings, motifs, embroideries, pottery, sculptures and what not! A strong sense of design is characteristic of Indian art and can be observed in its modern and traditional forms.

Nowadays many artists have started integrating technology into their works like digital paintings which is great!

People are perusing education in the fields of various arts. I think funds should be raised for exhibitions for display of such art forms so that it could be recognized globally with local artists being seen at art fairs and exhibitions.
