Artist of UNSEEN 2.0 - Rishika Verma ( The Dancing Pen Co.)
UNSEEN 2.0 is an unconventional form of exhibition which is a digital art exhibition curated by Platform For Artists . This enables artists across the country to participate, showcase their work and connect with like minded people. The entire idea is to broaden the scope of exposure which the artists would probably not get at an offline event. We have sixty diverse artists from across the country who are a part of this one of it's kind art exhibition.
Here is a set of questions team Platform For Artists asked Rishika about her everyday routine, her art interests and more.
Tell us about yourself.
After finishing my Post Graduation in Fashion Management, I had a few weeks off when I stumbled upon this world of Calligraphy & Lettering on Instagram and decided to explore it for myself. What started as a mere hobby about over a year ago, has become my passion today and I’m exploring every opportunity to learn and grow more and more every single day. And thus, The Dancing Pen Co. was born. Other than that, I’m a complete animal lover, binge watching Netflix at any chance I may get, love watching movies, love travelling!
What are your art interests?
It’s amazing how art has the ability to heal those around us, simply therapeutic. My interest lies in Calligraphy & Lettering, it’s a vast field and there’s just so much of it to learn and explore, it’s endless. I also love Photography, any chance I get to capture a beautiful moment especially a beautiful sky, I shall not miss it.
What are your views about the current scenario of art in our country?
There’s art all around us if you look closely. I’ll specifically talk about the Calligraphy & Lettering industry in our country and over the past few years, I see that the art of Calligraphy is emerging again. There are some amazingly talented artists in our country each unique to their own style. There’s so much scope and opportunity for artists like us in India and the future looks illustrious!
What are your working on currently?
Apart from the work that needs to be done on a daily basis, I’m currently working on multiple things. Working with brands and clients for custom products, setting up my online store, working on developing worksheets for soon to happen iPad Lettering workshops both online and offline.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
There’s inspiration everywhere, we’re surrounded by words and letters.
I take a lot of inspiration from books, magazines and of course, the online world. Must stop and notice the amazing typography around us.
Which kind of artists would you be interested to collaborate with?
It would love to collaborate with Illustrators, Videographers to see my letters dancing around their magic also, collaborating with other Lettering Artists. It would be amazing to see what two different people working in the same field may bring up. I’d also love to extend my lettering for the title of a film, book cover someday.
What's the first thing you do when you wake up ?
I would be lying if I’d say I don’t check my phone first thing in the morning, trying to break that habit and inculcating a little bit of early morning yoga feels great.
Which is the most used app in your phone?
Which is the one song you can't get out of your head?
Currently it’s ‘Somebody by Bazzi’. Must listen!
You de-stress by?
Spending time with family including my cutest dog! Food! Music! Going for a quick run to clear my mind! Of course, nothing more therapeutic and calming than just being on your desk and taking out a pen and paper or iPad and start lettering away.
